• Celebration of Half the Sky Reception

  Pulitzer Prize Winners, Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristof were guests of honor at Mothers Day Every Day Advisory Committee Member Tammy Haddad's residence on September 10th in a special reception made possible by the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women campaign to introduce their new book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity For Women Worldwide. Joining the reception, White Ribbon Alliance leaders Aparajita Gogoi from India and Jeremie Zoungrana from Rwanda and Burkina Faso, spoke about the people who are making a difference to empower women in developing countries. • Congressional Briefing: Strengthening Maternal Health

  Senator Russ Feingold, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on African Affairs sponsored a briefing on Strengthening Maternal Health: The Greatest Hope for Africa. Speakers included Helene Gayle (CARE USA), Mary Ellen Stanton (USAID), Samuel Adeniyi-Jones (Department of Health and Human Services), R.J. Simonds (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), Harshad Sanghvi (Jhpiego), and Theresa Shaver (White Ribbon Alliance). In addition to Mothers Day Every Day and campaign partners CARE USA and White Ribbon Alliance, briefing supporters included the Centre for Development and Population Activities, Population Action International, Family Care International, Amnesty International, US Coalition for Child Survival, ONE, Global Health Council, Engender Health, Health Right International, Jhpiego, Advocates for Youth, PATH, Save the Children, Population Services International, Global Action for Children, Pathfinder, and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. • White House Correspondents Garden Brunch

  This year's annual White House Correspondents Garden Brunch, co-hosted by Tammy Haddad, Ted Greenberg, Hilary Rosen, David Adler, Alex Castellanos, Michael Feldman, Ann Walker Marchant, Steve McMahon, Ellen Ratner, Chip Smith, and David Sutphen, was dedicated to the Mothers Day Every Day campaign. Honorary co-chairs Susan Axelrod and Ann Curry spoke on behalf of the campaign and asked the guests to tell how they will help create healthier families and nations by making Mothers Day Every Day.
